Đurakov Do

Đurakov do II deposit is located in north-east region of Nikšićka Župa, in the north-west part plateau of Štitovo. The altitude of terrain surface in the area of deposit ranges from 1500 and 1550 m. On its north – east side Prisoja reaf is located (1861), and further on, in the same direction, at 2 to 5 kilometers, other spurs of Maganic mountain are located, with mountain tops reaching up to 2104 m. The deposit is located east of Nikšić, and connects thereto via Seoce and Liverovići by a high – quality tarmac road 27 km long.

Đurakov do deposit consists of five ore bodies, divided by morphological shapes of paleorelief and secondary tectonics. These are marked as ore bodies of Đurakov do: I, II, III, IV and V.

Geological structure

Wider area of Đurakov do deposit consists of carbonate sediments of Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous. During dry – land phase, that occurred between Upper Triassic (Rhaetian) and Upper Jurassic (Teton), numerous ore bodies of red bauxite have been created. Red bauxite base is built from upper – Triassic Rhaetian megalodon, banked and massive limestones, that occur in south – west margins of a deposit. These limestones are intensely karstified and damaged in contact with bauxite, notably both paleo and neo – karstification. Most frequent paleokarst shapes are karst sinkholes, valleys, etc. as well as positive shapes of a ‘pyramid’, having the height up to 15m.

The structure of bauxite bodies exhibits certain zoning, with gradual transition: in lower pillar part there are massive bauxite without oolite and pisolite, and above there are red massive, granular bauxite with small oolite and irregular accumulation of pisolite, whereas on the top there are reddish – brown, compact pisolitic bauxite. Also, the quality of bauxite is noticeably better from top to base, and bauxitization is performed at spot. In immediate top of bauxite there is clay, having thickness from 1 to 2 meters. Above clay and limestones of Upper – Triassic (where bauxite is missing), transgressively, there are layers of grey or yellowish limestones of Teton with clypeina, located in first base layer. Moving higher, the limestone transits into dolomitic - limestone sediments of Lower Cretaceous. 

Quality of bauxite

Main minerals are: boehmite – 64,24%, kaolinite – 11, 89%, hematite – 19,18%, calcite – 2,54% and anatase – 2. 88%. According to its mineral composition, bauxite in this deposit belongs to first type of mono – hydrant red bauxite of boehmite type. Additional minerals constitute less than 1% of total mineral composition (pyrite, marcasite, magnetite, zircon, ilmenite, quartz, etc.)

Based on earlier research, bauxite in Đurakov do deposit contain numerous micro – elements with composition in ppm: Pb-50; Ga-17; V-180; Cu-70; Y-30; Zn-90; Zr-200; Ni-80; Co-15; Sc-14; Cr-300; La-80; Sr-15; Li-50; U-6,1 and Th- 42.

Based on the research of volume mass, done on 20 samples, calculated arithmetic mean of volume mass of bauxite in this deposit of 2,75 t/m3.

Bauxite reserves

Last calculation of red bauxite reserves in Đurakov do deposit has been carried out within the Study on classification, categorization and calculation of red bauxite reserves in Nikšićka Župa deposits: Zagrad, Biočki stan, Đurakov do, Štitovo II and Borovnik, status on 31 December 2006, using a method of parallel vertical profiles. Remains of non – excavated reserves have high degree of exploration (A:B=75%:25%). The study has not been certified by competent Ministry.
